BNegão e os Seletores de Frequência

BNegão, strikes an eccentric balance between political philosopher and street preacher. He rose to fame in the late 1990s as Marcelo D2‘s partner in Planet Hemp, a popular, pro-legalization group that landed BNegão in trouble with the police for the band’s hemp-positive message. The group sold over 1.000.000 copies at the time.  With Os Seletores de Frequencia, BNegão fuses in-your-face rap with Brazilian and Caribbean rhythms, throwing in a healthy dose of funk, jazz and hardcore for good measure, not to mention his poetry.  Considered one of the most creative rappers in Brazil, he released his first solo album in 2003, “Enxugando Gelo (Drying Ice)”, independently, which was been cited by journalist Daniel Brown (European music critic) as one of the world’s top 5 releases of the black/rap genre that year.  Since then, he has been touring in Brazil and Europe (10 tours to Europe in the last 5 years). In 2007, he had two of his songs selected for the album “The Inspiring New Sounds of Rio de Janeiro,”  a selection released by the North American Verge Records, for which he received many compliments from famous critic John Pareles, of the New York Times.  HIs 2012 album, Sintoniza Lá was elected best album of the year by MTV, “Best HIp Hop album” by iTunes Brasil and “Best Black Music album” by Prêmio Dynamite.  In 2015, he released his third album, Transmutação, elected the second best album of 2015 and amongst the best albums of the year by the magazine Rolling Stone Brasil.
